Moon

moon

beware         lady moon

she is a scoundrel

and hunterly

she would steal the very light from your face

if she

could

thief too she is of darkness

distinction and of gravity

snow-swept sombre moon

stained sombre moon

she has a thousand faults

vain she is exceedingly

though scarred

or perhaps

because

she draws the blood of women

thirsty

hungry

gloating

moon

us

it is

her lovers it is

who raise her by our eyes

otherwise what would she be?

a rock from afar

still I often ask her in whispers

how much of night she will spare

and whether in her fullness

she has a tale to bare

so

silently she smiles

silently

harshly and prettily

she smiles without a care

she is as she is

it is true that

once I saw her bathing

in shivers

in the river

naked lady moon

naked

in the river

but when I bent to look

she only was

a  b r o k e n  m i r r o r

and straight into my stomach

she twisted her

b r o k e n  r i v e r s

she does not care

the lady moon

hard she is

and fickle

her lips save

a frozen kiss

for who knows what of

the stars

they hide

far

from her
